Brian sets up a shot that may or may not be used. This is the infamous "interrogation scene" of Billy when he first arrives at Happy Saturdays.
Here, Brian tries a hand-held shot so we can get an extreme close-up of Billy's panic-induced terror. This took a few takes, since we had to take the lighting and boom guy into account.
Billy (played by Andrew Vita) has to withstand the relentless teasing of Johnny (Charlie Connolly) and Rusty (Keith Sontag). They circle him like a pair of hungry sharks, interrogating the defenseless Billy about the horrors of working as a theme restaurant server. Gabrielle (Susan Tromans) looks on as Billy is reduced to a quivering mass of protoplasm.
Will this shot make it into the final cut? Wait and see.
Keith, Charlie, and Andrew work out some of the specifics of the interrogation scene. There was a lot of starting and stopping throughout the shoot, so a quick refresher course in the screenplay was occasionally needed.
Writer/Director Steve Strangio goes over some of the blocking with Holly Hunt (who plays Kay).
The challenge here was to find a way for Holly to move over to the couch once the scene shifted.
In the story, Kay is literally caught in between her "current fling" Mr. Jonez and her "true love" Johnny.
Viewers will find out how this turns out ... and they'll also get the chance to view the world-famous "Holly Hair-Flip."
So what the hell is going on here?
I could let you guys add your own captions, but that just might get too wacky ... even for me.
Billy is forced to sing the "Happy Saturdays Birthday Song" to one of his customers, but is in a state of blind-panic while doing so.
He bursts in the middle of a really dramatic scene between Rusty and Johnny ..... dressed like this.
Funny thing was, I let Andrew choose his own combination of wacky props before the scene and told him to surprise me.
Did I mention that we had to do 4 takes of this scene? We couldn't stop laughing.
Well gang, all I can say is that there is still a lot of work to do. We'll keep you informed. Stay tuned.
